New At Fairview – July 2, 2021

I’m excited to share that Steve Pawelko, who has served as Executive Director of Fairview, has accepted a new role with the Resource Team as Director of Operations. I am also pleased to announce that Don Wildfong will join Fairview as the new Executive Director. Don has a wealth of experience working in the older adult community. Most recently, he was the Implementation Facilitator of the Waterloo Wellington Older Adult Strategy, Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo Wellington. We look forward to formally welcoming Don in early August.

Steve will remain very visible in the home, transitioning Don into the role. Steve will also be moving our LTC expansion project forward, following the announcement on March 18, 2021, when the Ontario government announced that Fairview has been allocated 108 new spaces. In addition, Fairview will be renovating the existing 84-bed home. We are still quite early in the planning process and will provide updates as this exciting expansion opportunity unfolds. Keeping residents safe through COVID-19 continues to be a priority. I thank you all – residents, families, and team members – for your continued vigilance. Fairview Parkwood Communities have been blessed. We are still very aware of the risk and continue to strive to balance safety and wellbeing.

In closing, I want to invite residents, families, friends and team members to consider supporting our second annual ‘Walk the Kindness Way’ event. This is a 42-kilometre walk which will take place on Saturday, September 25 and Sunday, September 26, 2021, along the Walter Bean-Grand River Trail. With your help, we plan to raise a total of $250,000 over the next five years – that’s $50,000 a year. Whether you choose to walk, pledge, donate, volunteer and cheer on all participants, your participation will help make this event a success. Learn more about the Walk here.

With Kindness,

Elaine Shantz, MA (Leadership)
CEO, Fairview Parkwood Communities
